Freedom Lodge

Freedom Lodge, Kandy: A Recommendation

My second stay was at the Freedom Lodge on the southside of Kandy Lake. Intrigued by the name, I called to reserve a room and dinner just a few hours before arriving in Kandy. The guest house is located up a steep hill, about a 15-min walk from the city centre. My room on the ground floor, just next to the terrace with the dining table, was spacious and clean. On the small desk in front of the window, I could do some late-night writing, leading to late breakfasts. Unfortunately, no wifi at this guest house, but I was offered to use their laptop and Internet in their private bedroom, which I did not excessively make use of. Breakfast (shared with monkeys) and dinner were served just outside my door. Dinners offered a fantastic taste of Sri Lankan cuisine, enjoyed in the family atmosphere of other guests. Nalini and Sarath who run the guest house are very friendly people who treat you with much attention, like you have been their first guest telling them about the day's explorations. Overall, definitely recommendable.
